In 1974, the journey of Big Green Egg commenced with its American founder, Ed Fisher, initially importing pinball machines from Japan to distribute in Atlanta, Georgia. Seeking to expand his summer offerings beyond arcade games, Ed ventured into a unique realm by importing Japanese kamado grills.

As part of a marketing initiative, Ed showcased the versatility of these grills by cooking chicken wings at the storefront. The incredible flavor experienced by the barbecue enthusiasts of the Deep South led Ed to pivot his focus entirely towards the kamado business, forsaking arcade machines.

Frustrated by the complexities of importing and the limited control over product design, he made the bold decision to create his own barbecue. Thus, Big Green Egg was conceived, marking the beginning of a new era in outdoor cooking.
